Fallen Gods

Healing rain is a real touch from God. It could be physical healing or emotional or whatever. ~ Michael W. Smith

The living dead - Part 1 of 3

Year 2220

The Foundation:
She enters the elevator and presses the button to the top floor, 100. She presses her forehead to the wall made of glass, looking out to see people walking, some to the their jobs, some to run errands, most to see their Doctors, she just kept looking as the elevator went up in great speed.

The door slides open and she enters a room full of wall to wall monitors. The only furniture a single desk and chair. She takes her seat and begins. "Good morning Doctors."

One by one the men in the room, all 20 of them greeted her back. One "good morning" after another. She knew where they were from the neon bracelets they wore. No other physical sign of anyone but her in the room.

"Let's begin. How many deaths, how many transformations and how many newly infected?" Her voice soft but stern. She flicked her long auburn hair from her face. Already used to the scars on her face she no longer covered it like most women did. She wore crimson red lipstick on her full lips, to match her eyes.

As each Doctor spoke statistics the monitors would all show lines appear and disappear like an EKG.

"Approximately 5,000 dead"
"Approximately 25,000 transformations and still counting"
"Newly affected, unknown. Over 1,000 reported today"

The City:
Monroe and Jackson were brothers, and very close. They lived in the inner city, mostly empty as most were infected one way or another. Many were taken to the foundation whether infected or not.

Monroe took being an older brother very serious and was truly Jacksons keeper. At fifteen he was living as fast as he could, knowing the inevitable would come. They were running as fast as they could. Word came that their sister was ill, they left school to be with her.

They entered the house and was about to remove their masks when their mother spoke. "It's too late boys, they took her to the foundation." The bright neon red tears flowing from her eyes.

Jackson began to cry and Monroe hugged him, neither noticing Monroe disappearing.

100 years ago - at the outskirts of Manaus City, Brazil:
Well Dr. Albright, do we have a cure? Joel Albright, lead Professor for the small organization called G.O.D. spoke to his wife, Dr. Katherine Albright who was in charge of Pancreatic Oncology, specializing in stabilizing and testing new vaccines for a tremendous outbreak recently of Pacreatic cancer.

She turned into his hug smiling. "I think we are close. The leaves they brought us is phenomenal. The enzymes are multiplying. We'll need to do a test soon." They turned to the sealed glass lab where technicians were scraping large leaves. They glittered and glowed a bright green, almost sweating, although cut they would not die or require water for some weeks. Found in the depths of a jungle deep within the core of the Amazon jungle.

"He's not doing well, Kat. We need to work faster or our son will die." He felt her tremble and knew without looking that she was crying silent tears.
